Mark gained extensive experience as the chief legal officer of a prominent, global company. Mark was a key adviser to management and the leader of a department comprised of 21 lawyers and seven additional employees, worldwide.

During his final two years at Dow Jones, Mark also held the position of Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of News Corp, the public company and parent of Dow Jones. In that capacity, Mark advised and helped administer the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee of the News Corp Board of Directors. Mark also supervised issues related to content and editorial standards for all publications of News Corp, globally.

Mark also supervised the physical security departments of both News Corp and Dow Jones, and is well-versed in data security and privacy-related issues.

Mark is a prominent member of the media legal community and has been for several years, serving in a variety of legal positions. As the distribution and consumption of news and information moved digitally, Mark developed an early expertise in applying traditional legal principles to digital technologies. He is also well-versed in the unique issues presented by existing and developing technologies.

Mark has expertise in identifying and managing risk across an enterprise. He is particularly adept at calibrating risk avoidance strategies to the needs of a given enterprise, balancing the need for innovation and growth alongside the need to avoid unnecessary risk.

Because of the global reach and free-speech focus of Dow Jones and News Corp, Mark has had extensive experience dealing with foreign governments, regulators and regulations generally.

Mark has worked in the not-for-profit and philanthropic worlds, and has extensive board and governance experience, having served on numerous not-for-profit boards in the media, literacy and cultural sectors.
